Born in 1920, Bishop Isaac Namango was an action spirited leader whose sole concern was the transformation of communities. To this end, from his youth, he set out life changing projects among his community in Khasoko. Some of the projects he helped establish through his network of friends and the cooperation of his community included the Khasoko Complex. The Khasoko Complex included Khasoko Secondary school, Khasoko Primary school, Khasoko Special school for the physically and mentally handicapped, Khasoko Youth Polytechnic, Khasoko Dispensary and the Christian Rural Society development center. Beyond Khasoko Village, Bishop Namango helped establish the Mungore primary and Girls secondary school among other schools in the community. In his time, Bishop Isaac Namango was a much sort after mentor and speaker. He rallied his community to forego comforts for the sake of the future of the community. He believed in Education as a transformer of people’s lives. He came up with fundraising activities in the community that so over 1000 students from poor families attending school. One of the most memorable activities done by Bishop Isaac Namango was the infamous Walkathon- a fundraising activity that was done by walking for over 150 kilometers to raise funds to educate the needy and also construct the Nambale Diocese church.
He was a keen observer, listener and could identify passion, skill and leadership from people. He nurtured and mentored different leaders who took after him after he retired from public life. He ensured that the Khasoko community was linked to the rest of the world through his international and local networks. This also saw a number of students from Khasoko get top quality education from oversees schools and universities through the scholarships he would get from these networks. Bishop Isaac Namango appeared to have existed before his time. He saw beyond the limits of everyday life and prejudice. His exposure through education and overseas travel as way back as 1975, made him dream a future for his community that was beyond the limits of the horizons.
Professionally, Bishop Isaac Namango served as a teacher for different schools. They include a brief teaching assignment in Kitale, Munami primary school, Khasoko Primary school, Khasoko Secondary school among others. He also served as the assistant chief of Khasoko sub-location. He served as a lay-reader of the Anglican Church of Kenya before raising through the ranks to become the Assistant Bishop of the Maseno Diocese. He would later be inaugurated as the first bishop of Nambale Diocese in Western Kenya. Bishop Isaac Namango also served as the chairperson of different boards of management of schools and institutions. They included Nambale secondary school, Khasoko high school, Khasoko secondary school, Lung’anyiro secondary school, Mungore secondary and primary school, Butere teachers training college among others. Bishop Isaac Namango was married to Mama Grace Wabuti Namango and they were blessed with 9 children. They include Peninah Wanjala, Arthur Wesa, Eliud Sikuku, Alice Mundia, Rhodah Siang’a, Mary Wanyonyi, Saul Sitati Namango, Bella Namango, Jack Namango. After a lengthy service to his community that stretched over 65 years of public life, Bishop Isaac Namango passed away in October 2009. However, to this day, his ideas and community projects he led in establishing continue to transform the life of the local community. He also received the Head of State commendation medal for service to community awarded by Moi. and later posthumous received county government recognition by Ken Lusaka.
